Congregations Provide
Food, Fun and Fellowship

Poz Events

Poz [pronounced "pause;" short for positive, as in HIV-positive] Events are
TIHAN Programs for people Living with HIV. All Poz Events are the result of
the HIV/AIDS community requesting more social events. Giving people a chance
to get out, enjoy the company of new and old friends and relish a delicious
free and safe meal. Many people are doing better and feeling better due to
new medications, and are looking for more social opportunities. Poz Events
are social, NOT support groups; they are also a way to enhance good health
through friendship, fellowship and nutrition.

Poz Cafe

Poz Café is an opportunity to get out of the house, take a break, meet other
positive people and enjoy!
On the third Thursday of each month, volunteers from local Tucson
congregations provide a fantastic, delicious and nutritious lunch for people
living with HIV. This is followed by time to "hang out", chat, participate
in a game or two of BINGO, enjoy our raffle of fun and useful gifts or even
"shop" in the Poz Marketplace.
People living with HIV and their guest are invited to join in this wonderful
opportunity. All attending the café are asked to honor the highest standard
of confidentiality. A guest may be a partner, spouse, relative, friend or
volunteer.
The cafe is open from 11:30am to 2:00pm at St. Francis in the Foothills
Church, located at the corner of Swan and River roads. It's a beautiful
setting, somewhat away from the hustle and bustle of life in the middle of
the city. Transportation can be provided with advance notice.

Poz Marketplace

A new component of TIHAN's successful Poz Cafe lunch is the addition of Poz
Market Place. After lunch, participants can pick up needed items from a
table stocked with donated clothes, household items, and toiletries. Items
available at the marketplace include but are not limited to:
Small furniture items
Disposable Razors
Toilet Paper
Skin Lotion
Bar and Bath Soap
Toothpaste
Tooth Brushes
Shaving Cream
Dish Detergent
Ensure
Clothes and Household Goods
Small Kitchen Appliances
Food Items (Non-processed and Non-perishable)

Poz Social

An offshoot of the café, the social is a monthly opportunity to drop in, to
get out of the house and meet new friends. Light lunch and refreshments are
provided with plenty of "things" to do.  A huge array to arts and crafts,
new blockbuster movies and board games are always available. The Poz Social
is the first Tuesday of each month from noon to 3:00pm. The Poz Social is
held at a friendly central location, convenient to the Suntan Bus line. RSVP
is not required. Further information is available by call the TIHAN office.

POZ Cafe

The Reviews Are In:

  • "Good caring people."
  • "Relaxing."
  • "Very fun, and great food."
  • "Wonderful idea – great fellowship."
  • "Thanks!"

The concept for Poz Café is based upon other successful programs, including the Joshua Tree program in Phoenix, the Strength for the Journey Camp, and Cornerstone Fellowship’s former GLIA (God’s Love in Action) luncheon. Like all TIHAN programs, no proselytizing is permitted – the purpose is to enhance social opportunities and nutrition for adults living with HIV/AIDS.

Many people are doing better and feeling better due to new medications, and are looking for more social opportunities. Poz Café is a social event, NOT a support group; it’s also a way to enhance health through good nutrition. Poz Café is an opportunity to get out of the house, take a break, and meet other positive people.

Increasingly, we are realizing the importance of nutrition in managing HIV infection, and the critical role it plays in maintaining health and a sense of well-being.

Poz Café is not "health food," but it is healthy, with a balance between good nutrition and comfort foods. The menu will taste good, and be appealing, and of course, it will be made with lots of love from TIHAN’s volunteers. Each month will feature both meat and vegetarian entrees.

If you are HIV+ and want to get out and meet others in a fun, casual atmosphere, join us for lunch at Poz Café. There is no cost to attend Poz Café, but reservations are requested so that TIHAN can have an idea of how much to cook.

For more information about Poz Café, or to make your reservations or request transportation, call the TIHAN office at (520) 299-6647. And let us know if you want to bring a friend!

Poz Café receives its funding from compassionate congregations and individuals as well as a generous grant from the Tucson Chapter of AGRA (Arizona Gay Rodeo Association).
