Dear Friends,
We
received an end-of-year donation to TIHAN with the following
notation:
This
donation is made in memory of my dear friend [ ] who
received amazing support from TIHAN during his final years,
and who also volunteered to help others as he was able. I
hope this donation will allow you to keep up the great work
and help others who will need it too.
Behind
this simple note and the accompanying donation is a heart full
of emotion and gratitude. The kindness and support offered to
this person came from a host of volunteers and staff in a
myriad of ways, encompassing many of TIHAN's programs of
support for people living with HIV/AIDS.
It's
simple, but powerful. What you do makes a difference in
people's lives. Sometimes you help bring hope and
encouragement for someone to keep going. Sometimes you help
bring a touch of compassionate care and dignity during
someone's final months, weeks, days… Sometimes you empower
them to live as fully and courageously as possible. Always you
help connect caring hearts and welcoming hands with those in
need.
In
the midst of all the meetings and reports and deadlines and
finances and all of the business and challenges of operating a
nonprofit, we must never lose sight of what TIHAN is all
about:
people
caring for people, using the tenets of our faith to help
transform lives and making our community a healthier, more
compassionate place to live and grow and—when our
time comes—to face our destiny surrounded with care and
support.
I
look forward to continuing this work together as we enter a
new era…
Blessings
and thanks for all you make possible.

6. Treasures
– Seeking Auction Items for our Big Fundraising Event!
If
you would like to donate an item for our annual Treasures for
TIHAN auction, or if you want to help us collect treasures to
auction off, please let us know! We're seeking donations of

Checking What You Know about HIV/AIDS - Test Question of the
Month: What are the only four body fluids that can transmit
HIV?
Question:
What are the only four body fluids that can transmit the human
immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and what is a common difference between
those four fluids and the other fluids that do not
transmit HIV?
Answer:
Blood, semen, vaginal fluid, and breast milk are the four body
fluids that can transmit the HIV virus, and all other body
fluids DO NOT transmit the HIV virus. These four body fluids
are all "life giving" fluids, whereas all other body
fluids (such as saliva, tears, urine, sweat, snot and feces)
are body waste fluids and do not transmit the virus.

Volunteer Spotlight: TIHAN's Finance Committee
We
have many wonderful volunteers who serve as professional
advisors to TIHAN. We would like to take this opportunity to
acknowledge the members of the TIHAN Finance Committee for
their contributions and their support: David Braun, CPA; Ralph
Geror, Jr; Melinda Sims; Allen Kinzey; Peggy Williams; and
Dean R. Taylor. These committee members work behind the scenes
to streamline the financial and accounting aspects of our
organization. The Finance Committee reviews and oversees the
financial operations of TIHAN, including review of TIHAN's
internal financial policies and procedures and making
recommendations to the Board as needed.
The
members of the Finance Committee serve as ambassadors to the
community, thereby sharing information and keeping TIHAN
connected to our constituents, supporters, and partners. The
Finance Committee also acts as a professional resource and as
a well of support for TIHAN staff and volunteers. Professional
advisors help keep TIHAN a strong and effective organization.
If you have experience working in public relations, law,
accounting, fundraising, advertising, program administration
or evaluation, education, IT, or human resources, TIHAN could
use your help!
We
are so happy and thankful for the assistance and dedication of
the members of the Finance Committee; they are a great asset
to TIHAN. If you have professional experience that you would
like to share or you just want to learn more about
volunteering with TIHAN, please contact Volunteer Resources
Coordinator, Katelyn McDonald at (520) 299-6647 or at katelyn@tihan.org.

TIHAN is Bonkers about Beth Daum
Beth
Daum is a dedicated and generous volunteer who is involved
with TIHAN in many ways. A volunteer with TIHAN for over
thirteen years, she is a member of the Education Committee and
has served on a CareTeam. She helps coordinate speakers for
many of TIHAN's events, including Volunteer Orientation. In
addition, while the Director of Education and Community
Relations' position was empty, Beth coordinated the continuing
education program and performed other duties associated with
that position. Beth, who is an active member of the Lutheran
Church of the Foothills, has won several awards for her
commitment to volunteering in the past and continues to be a
vital part of TIHAN.
Beth
thank you for your time, talents, and contributions—we are
BONKERS about you!
