Volunteer Picnic
CareTeam Volunteer
Picnic Ages 2 through 72, it was a typically diverse TIHAN crowd, eating hamburgers, turkey burgers and veggie burgers all gathered in celebration of our CareTeam volunteers during National Volunteer Appreciation Week. Thanks to Jim Girard for setup, the Rev. David Wilkinson for the perfect grill, and to all our CareTeams for being so fabulous! Southern Arizona
Clergy Conference The goal of the conference was to provide clergy with greater awareness and information regarding spiritual care for the changing face of the AIDS pandemic. Guests of the conference had the opportunity to listen and share ideas throughout the day. Featured presenters included Jane Fowler from Kansas City, who told her personal story as an HIV+ woman over 50; the Rev. Chris Ponnet, Los Angeles liaison for Catholic HIV/AIDS Ministry, who spoke eloquently and pastorally about the role of spirituality in HIV/AIDS; and Dr. Kevin Carmichael from El Rio Special Immunology Associates, who informed attending clergy about the latest HIV/AIDS medical issues. Jane Mohler served as facilitator for the days events and Scott Blades inspired guests to become involved locally in ministering to those affected by HIV/AIDS. The conference would not have been a success without the many hours of volunteer service provided by the conference planning committee: Rev. Frank Bergen, Rev. Louis Kavar and Sister Patricia Walsh. The conference was made possible by generous financial support provided by the Flinn Foundation, Glaxo-Welcome Pharmaceuticals and Roche Laboratories. TIHAN Annual Meeting The 1999 budget and slate of Board members was approved, and a slide presentation on TIHAN was premiered, followed by a Board-sponsored reception for TIHANs volunteers and supporters. But the real fun began with dinner, as Robert Holguin and the St. Cyril youth group served up some of Tucsons finest Mexican food, courtesy of El Molinito Restaurants in a spectacularly-decorated Parish Hall. Then, the added bonus of the evening: a surprise folklorico performance to delight the crowd. But it wasnt all just fun: over $850 was raised to support TIHANs programs.
