Continuing Education
Quarterly continuing
education events are a great way to keep our volunteers and supporters
abreast of the latest developments and issues related to HIV and AIDS. These
programs provide additional training, information, and skills that are not
only helpful in work related to HIV/AIDS, but also many other areas of
family, work, social, and spiritual life. The general public, patrons from
member and non-member congregations, volunteers, and other interested
parties are encouraged to attend.
It is a great way to learn more about TIHAN, connect with others in our
community, and gather additional education and support. Past program topics
have included: a general medical update on HIV and AIDS from one of Tucson's
leading HIV/AIDS physicians; spiritual support for the changing face of
AIDS; and cultural diversity amongst people affected by HIV/AIDS.
It’s Time to Talk
-
A Forum on
Race
How
have events in your life shaped your views on race? What has the impact been
as a result of your views? These two questions are the focus of a
conversation-style event planned for the evening of Wednesday, September 24th
at St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church.
Racism
affects all of us regardless of what we look like. Eliminating racism is an
ongoing process that begins with each of us. A program of the YWCA of
Tucson, It’s Time to Talk, establishes an open and safe place to explore
your thoughts and point-of-views on race through conversation with others.
Discovering how your ideas on race and race relations have shaped your
environment and can lead to new understanding and new ways to eliminate
racism. It begins, and ends, with you.
RSVP to
the TIHAN office at 299-6647. Seating is limited, so call today! To learn
more about this and other YWCA Racial Justice Programs, visit their site at

Do you have little
energy, suffer from burnout, or feel tired too often?
Do you suffer from sore muscles, joints, or headaches?
Is stress a problem?
Do you feel you are "unbalanced" and often lose your focus?
Many times we dive into life and don't give our own body, mind, and spirit
the attention and care it needs to live. That will be the focus of a special
TIHAN education event.
ASK THE EXPERTS: A Continuing Education Panel that will address the
health
and stress issues that many volunteers and caregivers experience.
WHEN: Wednesday, May 14th at 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church, 4725 East Pima Street
at
Swan and Pima
WHY: Your quality of life matters! Acquire coping methods for stress
and
pain, and learn how to reduce their occurrences in your life. Create a sense
of balance that will improve how you feel and how you deal with life. Learn
about natural medicines and how they improve your well-being.
Presenters for the evening are Dr. Miriam Weber from Wholistic Family
Medicine and Tani Bahti from Carondelet Hospice. Dr. Weber is a specialist
in natural medicines and is experienced in acupuncture, Chinese herbs,
musculo-skeletal disorders, chemical sensitivity, and pain syndromes. Tani
Bahti is the Coordinator of Outreach and Education and trains hospice
volunteers in coping methods, stress management, setting limits and
boundaries, and methods to maintain energy to avoid burnout. After two,
short presentations, you will be able to ASK YOUR OWN QUESTIONS.
There is NO COST for this event. And it is a COMMITMENT FREE ZONE;
you will
not be asked to volunteer for other TIHAN needs and programs at this event.
There is more to being a volunteer than just work. Come and enjoy.

In order to keep our volunteers and supporters
abreast of the latest developments and issues related to HIV and AIDS, we hold quarterly
continuing education workshops. Each workshop will address a specific topic of interest to
TIHAN volunteers and supporters. Past workshop topics have included: a general medical
update on HIV and AIDS from one of Tucsons leading HIV/AIDS physicians; spiritual
support for the changing face of AIDS; and cultural diversity amongst people affected by
HIV/AIDS.
If you would like to help us determine the topic
for our next continuing education workshop, please print the survey below and mail the
completed survey to TIHAN, 492 N Alvernon Way, Tucson, AZ 85711.
So that we may plan our continuing education
programs for TIHAN volunteers and supporters, please indicate your interest for each
topic. Rank each topic below on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being a topic very important to
