Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, will take place April 26-29, 2001 at the

The Thursday afternoon-Sunday morning retreat
provides an opportunity to focus on our own personal life journey and to explore ways in
which we might enrich and strengthen ourselves. Workshops, open discussion, support
groups, arts and crafts, hikes, a talent show, and a party are among the planned
activities. To receive a brochure, call the TIHAN office at 299-6647.

The Rev. Dr. Mel White
Comes to Tucson
In
1997, the Rev. Dr. Mel White, co-founder of Soulforce, was awarded the ACLU's National
Civil Liberties Award for his efforts in the struggle for justice for sexual minorities.
His autobiography, "Stranger at the Gate: To Be Gay and Christian in America,"
tells of his journey from working with the Rev Jerry Falwell and the Rev Pat Robertson to
coming out as a gay man and becoming a pastor in the Metropolitan Community Church.
In
the tradition of Martin Luther King, Jr, Mel White has become a prophetic voice for
justice for all people, regardless of sexual orientation, and has spearheaded many
peaceful, non-violent demonstrations protesting religious discrimination against gay and
lesbian persons
