Volunteer Training

We regularly conduct one-day seminars for prospective CareTeam volunteers. Topics include a medical overview of HIV/AIDS, grief and loss issues, spiritual concerns of caregivers and care receivers, and active listening. Each class also has an opportunity to listen to and ask questions of a panel of people living with HIV and AIDS and a panel of CareTeam members.

We request that everyone who wishes to volunteer with TIHAN take the time to attend a volunteer orientation and training session. The times, dates and place for the next sessions are listed below.

Training Announcement

The next set of New Volunteer Orientations and Training's will take place in
February and March.

Each new volunteer must select and attend one orientation time. These
90-minute sessions will provide a solid understanding of TIHAN and
information on programs and services that you can apply the knowledge you
already posses as well as areas you might like to do more work in to pick up
additional skills and experience.

Please select only one date and time and call the TIHAN office at 299-6647
to RSVP that information.

Orientations:
Tuesday, February 24th from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Presbyterian
Church located  at 3809 East 3rd Street.

Tuesday, February 24th from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows
Catholic Church located at 1800 South Kolb Road.

Tuesday, March 16th from 7 p.m. - 8: 30 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the
Foothills located at 5102 North Craycroft Road.

After attending one of the orientations, new volunteers then attend the New
Volunteer Training to learn about HIV/AIDS in our Tucson Community. You will learn from experts from many organizations on basic HIV prevention and
education; local resources on HIV testing, substance abuse, and mental
health; explore the psycho-social aspects of HIV/AIDS, grief and loss, and
spiritual issues; acquire new active listening skills; and meet and learn
from a few people living with HIV/AIDS as well as other TIHAN volunteers
about why they feel so strongly about the work they do in the HIV/AIDS
community.

New Volunteer Training will take place on Saturday, March 20th from 8:30
a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Campus Christian Center located at 715 North Park Avenue    (U of A main gate).  Lunch will be provided. There is a $15 cost for materials and scholarships are available from TIHAN.

Because TIHAN is an interfaith organization we welcome all people of faith
and persons not yet associated with a certain denomination or faith
community. It is not important that you belong to a religion to get involved
and to help. You only need to posses the desire to make a difference and
allow TIHAN to help you grow in the service of others.
